An investigation of the factors that affect the electrolysis of brine and calcium carbonate

Using the method of applying low voltage through brine, dissolved minerals (calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide) in saltwater can accumulate as white limestone on the Biorock frame (cathode). This will allow coral larvae to attach to it and grow. There are many different factors, including the temperature of the seawater and the material of the anode that affects the deposition of calcium carbonate. The aim of the experiment is to find out which material of anode and temperature of brine affect rate of electrolysis.


Development of a Portable Diabetes Management System

The PDMS prototype consists of a dual Lee micro-pumps, an Arduino Uno, a Vernier pH sensor, an Annikken Andee bluetooth module, a Vernier Arduino Interface Shield and a relay shield. Since literature reviews show that there is a correlation between blood glucose level and salivary pH, a saliva sample is being used. In the testing phase, the team has simulated the use of insulin and glucose with sodium hydroxide and citric acid respectively. The saliva sample is simulated by the buffer solution.

Solar Storms are the atmospheric effects felt on Earth due to eruptions of mass and energy from the Sun (solar flares, prominences, sunspots, coronal mass ejections (CMEs), etc) occur on the sun (Wonderopolis, 2013). When the twisted field lines cross and reconnect, energy explodes outward with a force that exceeds millions of hydrogen bombs (Redd, 2015), accelerating hot gases towards the Earth. Radiation is emitted across virtually the entire electromagnetic spectrum (NASA). These cause problems that majorly affect radio communication, especially at places near the equator. The aim is to develop a school-based SSRT to identify the features of solar storms.
